Let’s be real—life with a newborn is a beautiful, exhausting, love-filled blur. One minute, you’re bringing your tiny human home, and the next, they’re suddenly growing out of their newborn clothes (how does that happen so fast?!). If you’re wondering when to schedule your baby’s first photoshoot, don’t worry—I’ve got you covered for your newborn photos!
So, When Is the Best Time for Newborn Photos?
The sweet spot for newborn photography is between 5 and 14 days old. Yep, those first two weeks are when babies are extra sleepy, snuggly, and totally okay with being gently posed into those adorable curled-up positions.
Why This Timeframe is Magic:
✔️ Sleepy Baby Vibes – Your little one is still adjusting to life outside the womb, which means they snooze a lot and are easier to pose.
✔️ The Newborn Look – Tiny fingers, squishy cheeks, soft flaky skin—this stage doesn’t last long, and it’s the perfect time to capture it.
✔️ Less Fussiness – Around weeks 3-4, babies start becoming more alert (adorable, but harder to pose and might stay awake longer!) and may experience baby acne or colic.
But What If You Miss That 2-Week Window?
First of all, no stress! Life happens, and sometimes, between sleepless nights and endless diaper changes, booking a newborn session slips through the cracks. Good news—your baby is still ridiculously cute, and we can still capture beautiful photos at any stage.
2 to 6 Weeks Old:
Baby is more alert and might give us some adorable open-eyed shots
We’ll focus on sweet, natural moments rather than the curled-up newborn poses
Can incorporate some more 'life-style themed' shots
6 Weeks to 3 Months:
Baby is showing more expressions (first smiles!!)
Chubby cheeks and tiny giggles start making an appearance
We’ll capture more interaction between baby and parents
Pro Tip: Book Your Session Before Baby Arrives!
Between late-night feedings, diaper changes, and getting to know your little one, the first few weeks can fly by in a sleep-deprived haze. That’s why I always recommend booking your newborn session while you’re still pregnant—ideally in your second or third trimester!
Don’t worry, we won’t pick an exact date just yet. Instead, we’ll pencil in a week after your due date and adjust once baby makes their grand entrance. That way, you won’t have to think about scheduling photos in the middle of adjusting to new parent life!
Let’s Capture the Magic!
No matter when you schedule your newborn session, one thing is for sure—you’ll never regret having these precious moments captured. If you’re expecting (or just had your little one), let’s make some photo magic together and capture all the snuggles, yawns, and tiny toes before they grow way too fast! 💛
